It is being reported that Democrat Joe Biden is allowing migrant children to be put in prison-like facilities while also separating children from families. These two issues were used by the Democrats to hammer Trump during his time as President.
According to the New York Times,
“The number of unaccompanied migrant children detained along the southern border has tripled in the last two weeks to more than 3,250, filling facilities akin to jails as the Biden administration struggles to find room for them in shelters.”
“The children are being held in facilities, managed by the Customs and Border Protection agency, that were built for adults. The border agency has been the subject of widespread criticism for the horrific conditions in its federal detention facilities, in which children are exposed to disease, hunger and overcrowding.”
Last week, Axios reported the Biden Administration has reversed the 50%-capacity requirement for facilities housing unaccompanied minors, increasing capacity to 100%. The change came after the CDC approved the capacity change.
In an additional change, the Washington Examiner reported that the Biden Administration is considering changing the names of the facilities to “reception centers”
While some have noted the Biden Administration is separating children, they are only doing to give officials enough time to verify the relationship between an adult and child. According to USA Today “The migrant children often arrive with a grandparent, older sibling or other relative but are separated until federal officials can confirm the accompanying adult is their relative, as required under U.S. law.”
