Special Counsel David Weiss has recently disclosed in a court document that Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, is set to be indicted this month.

The announcement came with the statement, “The Government intends to seek the return of an indictment in this case before that date,” referencing the deadline of September 29, 2023, as stipulated by the Speedy Trial Act.

Although the specific charges against Hunter Biden were not detailed in the court document, sources like CNN have indicated that they pertain to firearms. There’s also speculation that additional charges related to Hunter’s taxes or international business transactions, which have been under scrutiny, might either be included in the indictment or introduced later.

Interestingly, before his appointment as special counsel, Weiss was reportedly leaning towards not prosecuting Hunter Biden. This stance allegedly shifted when two IRS agents, acting as whistleblowers, claimed they faced obstacles in advancing the investigation due to interference from senior officials at the Department of Justice.

Subsequent to the whistleblowers’ revelations, Weiss insisted that Hunter Biden plead guilty to two minor tax offenses and agree to a deferred prosecution for a firearms-related charge.

Hunter Biden’s legal representative, Chris Clark, cautioned the prosecution team that if charges were pressed against his client, they would summon President Joe Biden as a witness. This move could potentially instigate a constitutional crisis by placing the president in opposition to his own Department of Justice. Clark elaborated on this by stating, “President Biden now unquestionably would be a fact witness for the defense in any criminal trial,” emphasizing the potential ramifications and the spectacle of a sitting president testifying in a criminal trial.
