Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri, a Republican, has criticized academic institutions where student organizations have shown support for Hamas and placed blame on Israel.
In a conversation with Sean Hannity on Fox News, the topic of university student groups’ stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict was broached. Hannity referenced a recent debate on his show between Cornel West and Alan Dershowitz. He expressed astonishment at the perspective of several Harvard student groups that solely faulted Israel, questioning the educational value of such prestigious institutions.
Senator Hawley responded by contrasting Harvard’s swift support for Ukraine, as evidenced by raising its flag, with its current silence on the attacks Israel faces. He emphasized the severity of the threats Israel confronts, stating, “They would kill every Jew in the world if they could.”
Hawley further questioned the financial backing of these student groups, suggesting a potential investigation by the Department of Justice into whether terror organizations might be funding or influencing these groups. He expressed concern over universities receiving federal funds while seemingly overlooking or tacitly endorsing such viewpoints.
