President Joe Biden signed a “historic” executive order on Wednesday, ordering the Department of Health and Human Services to expand their efforts, making gender reassignment surgeries easier to access for Americans “identifying” as transgender, including children.
“President Biden believes that no one should face discrimination because of who they are or whom they love. Since President Biden took office, he has championed the rights of LGBTQI+ Americans and people around the world, accelerating the march towards full equality,” per the White House factsheet.
The executive order runs cross-grain to Republican legislation to prevent transgender surgeries for minors and biological males in female spaces. The Administration dubbed those actions “legislative attacks against LGBTQI+ children and families.”
The order also clampdowns on “conversion therapy,” which the Biden administration describes as “a discredited and dangerous practice that seeks to suppress or change the sexual orientation or gender identity of LGBTQI+ people.” The factsheet ordered HHS to clarify that federal funding would not offer so-called conversion therapy.
The Administration declared that over 300 anti-LGBTQI+ laws were introduced during the past year, targeting transgender children and families and limiting or denying access to medical care and support. “President Biden is addressing these harmful, hateful, and discriminatory attacks head-on – not only by speaking up for America’s families, but taking action to stand up to the bullies targeting LGBTQI+ people.”
Notably, the executive order explicitly directs the HHS to “work with states to expand access to gender-affirming care” to limit suicide attempts among transgender youth. “Gender-affirming care” is a non-descript phrase used by transgender activists and the media to explain the surgical removal of breasts from biological females and the creation of fake penises. It also includes the removal of male genitals, sculpting fake vaginas and facial feminization or masculinization.
The Biden Administration also included the Department of Education in the expansion efforts. The president dictated that they address “the impacts of state laws that target LGBTQI+ students and has charged the department with releasing a sample school policy for achieving full inclusion for LGBTQI+ students.”
