While all 50 states in the U.S. are continuing to grow in terms of employment and economic recovery, Republican-led red states are consistently outperforming Democrat-led blue states. Currently, the top 3 states in economic growth are South Dakota, Texas, and Utah, all of which are controlled by GOP-identifying legislators and leadership.
Currently, the only blue states ranking in the top 10, in terms of economic growth, are Connecticut and Delaware.
As the economy continues to grow, economists are predicting that gross domestic product (GDP) will steadily climb by 5-6% each quarter of 2021.
Lydia Boussour, the lead U.S. economist at Oxford Economics, stated, “The economy is poised to see the fastest rate of real GDP growth since the early 1980s as improving health conditions, expanding vaccine distribution and generous fiscal stimulus will form a powerful cocktail.” Bourssour predicted a steady 7% increase in GDP throughout 2021.
South Dakota, the number one state in quarter-quarter GDP growth, grew 9.9% during the final quarter of 2020 while the lowest on the list, the District of Columbia grew 1.2%.
