On Sunday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said he is in favor of new legislation that would help prevent local municipalities from defunding police.
Abbott drove the point home by reminding people of the incident last summer after Austin City Council voted to remove $150 million in funding for the city’s police, police were unable to respond for 12 min. to a shooting that left a young man critically wounded.
He wrote, “This is what defunding the police looks like. Austin is incapable of timely responding to a victim shot in the head.”
The Governor’s tweet went on to say, “We won’t tolerate this. We’re about to pass a law-that I will sign-that will prevent cities from defunding police.
He ended the Tweet by saying “Sanity & safety will return.”
