Former Vice President Biden’s White House has formally declared that Russia’s movement into Ukraine is an invasion, which may lead to further sanctions against Russia.
In what Russia is saying is a “peacekeeping” mission, Vladimir Putin recognized separatist regions of Ukraine and has moved troops into those areas.
Principal Deputy National Security Adviser, John Finer, said “We think this is, yes, the beginning of an invasion, Russia’s latest invasion into Ukraine. He went on to say, “an invasion is an invasion and that is what is underway.”
Jen Psaki said in a statement on Monday, “President Biden will soon issue an Executive Order that will prohibit new investment, trade, and financing by U.S. persons to, from, or in the so-called DNR and LNR regions of Ukraine. This E.O. will also provide authority to impose sanctions on any person determined to operate in those areas of Ukraine.”
Additionally, it is expected European bloc of EU nations are expected to put into place their own sanctions against Russia. Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz said we was suspending the Nord Stream 2 pipeline project.
