During an interview on CBS’ Face The Nation, Fauci claimed that he represents science, and criticizing him is “really criticizing science.”
Fauci said, “Anybody who’s looking at this carefully realizes that there’s a distinct anti-science flavor to this, so if they get up and criticize science, nobody’s going to know what they’re talking about. But if they get up and really aim their bullets at Tony Fauci, well people can recognize that there’s a person there, so it’s easy to criticize, but they’re really criticizing science because I represent science.”
Senators Rand Paul and Ted Cruz, elected officials who literally represent the will of their constituents, blasted Fauci for his claim of representing the entire body of “science.”

In the same interview, Fauci laughed off Ted Cruz’s suggestion that Fauci should be prosecuted for lying to Congress over the alleged gain of function research conducted by his team.
Cruz had tweeted, “It’s a crime to knowingly lie to Congress, so I asked AG Garland if he’d appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Fauci.” To that, Fauci responded, “What happened on January 6th, senator?”
