House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy asked for a classified briefing after two Yemeni nationals on the FBI’s Terrorism Watchlist were apprehended while attempting to cross the U.S. – Mexico border.
McCarthy made the request to CIA Director William Burns and FBI Director Christopher Wray, although McCarthy hopes House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Vice President Kamala Harris will take part in the briefing.
In his letter to the officials, McCarthy stated that the capture of suspected terrorists “highlights the ongoing national security risk posed by the border crisis.”
McCarthy, along with other lawmakers, was given a tour by Border Patrol agents in El Paso. where they were told that agents have apprehended several individuals that were on the Terrorism Watch List.
“These revelations were shocking and concerning, and for those reasons, I felt compelled to share them with the nation,” McCarthy said.
