Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina has withdrawn from the Republican presidential race. The announcement came Sunday evening during an appearance on Fox News with the state’s former representative, Trey Gowdy. Scott, acknowledging the will of the electorate, stated, “I am suspending my campaign. I think the voters, who are the most remarkable people on the planet, have been really clear that they’re telling me, ‘not now, Tim.’”

Citing a Biblical verse, Scott expressed his acceptance of the current situation, hinting that his decision aligns with a divine plan, and emphasized that he will not be endorsing any other candidates at this time. Instead, he encouraged voters to conduct their own research into the candidates’ histories and qualifications.

While Scott’s future political plans remain open, possibly including another presidential bid, the immediate fallout of his campaign’s suspension has caused dismay among his staff. An unnamed senior staffer, as reported by the Associated Press’ Meg Kinnard, conveyed a sense of frustration and surprise within the campaign, especially among those who had recently been deployed to Iowa.

The shakeup in the GOP field also includes the exit of several other candidates, highlighting a season of intense competition and strategic withdrawals. Among them, former Vice President Mike Pence and other notable figures have stepped back, leaving the field increasingly narrow as the campaign heats up. Additionally, there are growing voices urging Governors Doug Burgum of North Dakota and Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas to consider their viability in the race following their exclusion from the latest debate.
