Trump’s Legal Team Goes on the Offensive During Day 4 of Impeachment Trial

The impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump continued into Friday as Trump’s legal team began their first day of presentations. Trump’s attorneys went on the offensive and played a lengthy video montage of elected officials using insightful language against Trump.

Micheal van der Veen pointed out that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi “said the 2016 election was hijacked and that Congress has a duty to protect our democracy. She also called the president an imposter and a traitor, and recently referred to our colleagues in the House as ‘the enemy within.’”

He added that many Democrat politicians “endorsed and encouraged” the anti-police riots that destroyed American cities across the country last summer.

When violent left-wing anarchists conducted a sustained assault on a federal courthouse in Portland, Oregon, Speaker Pelosi did not call it an insurrection. Instead, she called the federal law enforcement officers protecting the building storm troopers. When violent mobs destroyed public property she said, ‘People will do what they do.,’” the attorney told the Senate.

Later on, Trump’s lawyer David Schoen played clips of Pelosi telling reporters “I just don’t even know why there aren’t uprisings all over the country, and maybe there will be.”

Several of the Democrat Senators that were included in the video clips were reportedly smiling as their quotes were displayed, including Senator Sheldon Whitehouse after he was seen laughing when Senator Amy Klobuchar rolled her eyes.

Senator Richard Blumenthal, who was included in the montage, told reporters afterward, “They’re trying to draw a dangerous and distorted equivalence.”
